LIVINGSTON, AL

University Charter School

I was invited to the University Charter School in Livingston, AL to teach an art class for their summer program. I led the students through several foundational drawing and painting skills exercises. I started with figure drawing lessons. This taught the students how to simplify the human form into simple shape and allow them to construct figures in their own drawings. We then spent time drawing still-life installations. This taught the students to reduce objects into simple shapes and focus on how to draw light and shadow. Finally, I guided the students to work in groups to provide each other constructive art criticism and collectively create murals together. This program allowed students to improve their art skills and walk away with collectively creating murals that are now displayed at their school.
