Alabama mural artist Banks Compton created this detailed welcome mural beside City Hall in Eutaw, Alabama, celebrating the landscape, wildlife, and outdoor character of this historic West Alabama community.
The mural pairs the words “Welcome to Eutaw” with an oval landscape filled with trees, water, flowers, a white-tailed deer, and a wild turkey.
Although relatively small in scale compared with many of Banks' large murals, the artwork contains an unusually high level of detail, creating the feeling of looking through a window into the landscape surrounding Eutaw.

Eutaw and the surrounding countryside are closely connected to forests, wildlife, waterways, and outdoor recreation, including hunting.
Banks incorporated that character into the mural through two animals strongly associated with the region: a white-tailed deer and wild turkey.
The animals appear within a lush landscape of trees, water, grasses, and flowers beneath a bright blue sky. The oval shape frames the scene almost like a portal, giving viewers a glimpse into an idealized West Alabama landscape.
The imagery is paired with large hand-painted lettering welcoming visitors to Eutaw.

Banks creates murals around the characteristics that make individual Alabama communities distinctive.
In Eutaw, the landscape and outdoor culture became the story.

A Small Mural With a Lot to Discover
While the mural occupies a relatively compact section of the building, Banks approached it more like a detailed landscape painting.
Small flowers, distant trees, clouds, water, wildlife, and changing vegetation create layers of imagery within the composition.
Its location beside City Hall also gives the artwork a public-facing role. Rather than simply decorating the building, the mural provides a colorful welcome to residents and visitors while highlighting the natural environment surrounding the community.
