Murals That Tell the Story of a Business

Banks Compton creates custom commercial murals for businesses, brands, corporate offices, retail spaces, hospitality properties, entertainment venues, and other commercial environments.

From a single exterior wall to multi-mural corporate installations, each project is developed around the client, location, audience, and purpose of the space.

Banks' commercial mural experience includes projects for Starbucks, Beyond Gravity, Walmart, Crayola, Black Rifle Coffee Company, hotels, restaurants, bars, and other businesses throughout the United States.

Projects can incorporate company history, products, local culture, branding, nature, community stories, interactive elements, or completely original artwork designed specifically for the space.

Beyond Gravity | Decatur, Alabama

Banks created eleven murals for the Decatur facility of international space company Beyond Gravity.

The project combines aerospace imagery, corporate storytelling, dimensional fabrication, and technology. Three murals incorporate augmented reality, allowing elements of the paintings to animate through a smartphone.

Additional designs were adapted into postcards and apparel, while a series of murals surrounded by custom 3D-printed frames creates the illusion of windows looking into space.

Featured Commercial Mural Projects

Legacy Arena at the BJCC | Birmingham, Alabama

Banks created a commemorative mural for Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC)celebrating the arena's 50th anniversary and five decades of entertainment in Birmingham.

The mural draws from the venue's history of music, sports, and live events, incorporating imagery based on performers and moments connected to Legacy Arena. Featured musicians include Elvis Presley, Elton John, and Lionel Richie, alongside references to the Birmingham Bulls and other pieces of the arena's history.

Banks developed the artwork using historical performance photographs and archival references, transforming decades of events into a single contemporary composition.

The mural was unveiled as part of Legacy Arena's 50th anniversary celebration in 2026 and received coverage from Birmingham-area media.

Starbucks | Huntsville, Alabama

Created for a Starbucks location in Huntsville, this original mural connects the company's identity with Huntsville's relationship to space exploration.

Banks developed imagery inspired by NASA's Artemis program, the Moon, the Space Launch System, coffee plants, and the mythology surrounding Artemis, creating artwork specific to both the Starbucks brand and the Rocket City.

Walmart | Multi-State Murals

Banks has created site-specific mural designs for Walmart locations across Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania.

Each digitally illustrated design incorporates landmarks, culture, and imagery associated with the community surrounding its individual store before being reproduced as a large-format vinyl installation.

Featured projects include Walmart locations in Algiers/New Orleans, Mobile, and Dothan.

Black Rifle Coffee Company | Mesa, Arizona

Banks worked alongside lead artist Taylor Nelson to execute a large-scale exterior mural for a Black Rifle Coffee Company location in Mesa, Arizona.

The mural design was provided by Black Rifle Coffee Company's corporate creative team and features a series of military figures incorporated into a colorful composition celebrating the brand's connection to the U.S. military and veteran community.

Banks' primary contribution included painting five of the figures and faces depicted in the mural, as well as assisting with background areas and the overall installation.

The project demonstrates Banks' ability to work collaboratively with another lead artist and accurately translate corporate-provided artwork to architectural scale while maintaining the approved design and brand identity.

Crayola Experience | Chandler, Arizona

Banks also worked alongside lead artist Taylor Nelson on the colorful exterior murals at the former Crayola Experience location in Chandler, Arizona.

Rather than creating a new mural design, the project involved repainting and refreshing existing Crayola artwork across the building's exterior.

Banks helped restore the murals' bright colors and recognizable imagery, including oversized crayons, Crayola characters, paint splashes, logos, and other playful elements associated with the brand.

The project provided experience working within the visual identity of a nationally recognized creative brand while demonstrating another side of commercial mural work: restoring and maintaining existing large-scale artwork rather than replacing it.

Custom Murals for Businesses & Brands

A commercial mural can do more than decorate a wall. It can help a business become recognizable, tell the story of a company, connect a brand to its community, create a memorable customer experience, or provide a backdrop for photography and social media.

Banks Compton creates custom murals for businesses, corporate offices, retail spaces, restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues, developers, manufacturers, and other commercial properties.

Every project begins with understanding the client: what the business does, who uses the space, what story it wants to tell, and what the finished artwork should accomplish.

From there, Banks develops artwork specifically for the architecture and the client's vision.

Commercial Mural Design

Banks works collaboratively with clients throughout the design process, beginning with conversations about the space, brand, audience, and goals for the artwork.

Depending on the project, a commercial mural can incorporate:

  • Company history and storytelling

  • Brand colors and visual identity

  • Local landmarks and culture

  • Products and services

  • Nature and regional imagery

  • Interactive photo opportunities

  • Employee and community stories

  • Augmented reality and digital experiences

  • Artwork integrated into unusual architectural surfaces

Before painting begins, clients have the opportunity to review the proposed artwork and provide feedback so the final design aligns with their vision.

Interior & Exterior Commercial Murals

Banks creates artwork for both interior and exterior commercial spaces.

Exterior murals can transform blank facades, storefronts, courtyards, parking areas, and highly visible walls into recognizable landmarks.

Interior murals can create memorable environments in lobbies, offices, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, break rooms, entertainment venues, and customer-facing spaces.

Banks also has experience working on a wide variety of surfaces and environments, including masonry, drywall, corrugated metal, industrial structures, dimensional architectural elements, and other unconventional surfaces.

Corporate Campuses & Multi-Mural Projects

Commercial projects aren't always limited to a single wall.

Banks has experience developing artwork across multiple walls, rooms, buildings, and locations, including eleven murals created throughout Beyond Gravity's Decatur aerospace facility and Walmart mural designs produced for locations across six states.

For larger projects, individual murals can maintain a consistent visual identity while responding to the purpose and architecture of each space.

Banks can also work alongside architects, interior designers, developers, contractors, marketing departments, and corporate creative teams when artwork is part of a larger construction, renovation, or branding project.

Interactive Murals & Augmented Reality

Murals can also extend beyond the painted wall.

For Beyond Gravity, Banks worked with augmented-reality technology to create murals that animate when viewed through a smartphone. Painted imagery can appear to move beyond the wall, allowing physical artwork to become part of a larger interactive experience.

Artwork from the project was also adapted to postcards and apparel, demonstrating how a mural's visual identity can extend into other branded materials.

Banks is open to exploring augmented reality, projection, dimensional fabrication, interactive elements, and other technologies when they strengthen the concept behind a project.

Original Artwork & Corporate-Provided Designs

Commercial projects can require different levels of creative involvement.

For most original commissions, Banks develops the artwork specifically for the client—from the initial concept and rendering through final painting.

Banks also has experience working within established corporate brand standards and pre-approved designs.

Projects for Black Rifle Coffee Company and Crayola Experience, completed while assisting lead artist Taylor Nelson, required accurately executing existing artwork rather than developing the original concepts.

This experience allows Banks to work comfortably on both artist-led custom commissions and larger corporate projects with established creative direction.

Commercial Murals as Marketing

A well-designed mural can continue providing value long after the painting is complete.

At Thomasville Honda, for example, the finished mural became a branded backdrop where the dealership could photograph inventory and create content for Facebook and social media.

Other murals can become recognizable photo opportunities, help distinguish a storefront from neighboring businesses, encourage customers to share photographs online, or create a visual identity associated with a particular location.

Banks considers these potential uses during the design process so the artwork can be both visually engaging and useful to the business commissioning it.
