A colorful destination mural celebrating the history and identity of Foley, Alabama, created by Alabama mural artist Banks Compton at Downtown OWA.
Located beside the Downtown OWA Splash Pad, this mural transforms an unused brick corner into a large-scale photo destination for visitors to OWA Parks & Resort. Designed with an older audience in mind, the artwork combines recognizable Foley landmarks and history with bold imagery intended to encourage visitors to stop, take photos, and share their experience in Foley online.

Celebrating Foley, Alabama
At the center of the mural, oversized “Foley Alabama” lettering creates a natural photo opportunity where visitors can stand beneath the city's name.
Surrounding the lettering are symbols drawn from Foley's history and identity. The clock tower represents Heritage Park, home to Foley's historic railroad depot and carillon tower. The locomotive references the railroad's central role in Foley's development: town founder John B. Foley helped finance the extension of the rail line from Bay Minette, which reached Foley in the early 1900s and helped establish the community as an agricultural and commercial center.
Flying overhead is a yellow N3N Navy training biplane, recognizing Foley's World War II aviation history. N3Ns were among the aircraft used to train Navy aviators at Barin Field, which operated near Foley during World War II.
Large pink camellias, Alabama's state flower, frame the composition and tie the historic imagery together.
A Mural Made to Be Shared
Beyond telling Foley's story, the mural was designed as an interactive destination. Its scale, bright colors and prominent city name invite visitors to photograph themselves with the artwork and share their visit to Foley and OWA through social media.
By turning an overlooked brick corner into a recognizable visual landmark, the mural adds another public-art experience to Downtown OWA while promoting the community beyond the physical site.
