A Theatrical Entrance for a Performance Space
Banks Compton created this entrance mural for a dance studio in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, transforming a recessed storefront entrance into a theatrical gateway.
Large red velvet curtains frame both sides of the entrance, opening onto a dark background filled with colorful stars. On one side, a pair of legs in bright heels emerges from behind the curtain, while the opposite wall features a hand holding a decorative fan.
The design uses the architecture of the entrance itself to create the illusion of stepping through the curtains and into a performance.

Murals Designed for the Space
Rather than treating the two walls independently, Banks used the recessed entrance as part of the composition. The curtains wrap around the space and visually frame the doorway, creating a colorful and memorable arrival for visitors to the studio.
